| Primary Mental Health Teams |

Public mental health services have traditionally restricted access to their services to those with a 'serious' mental illness. The high prevalence disorders, such as depression and anxiety, have primarily been managed by general practitioners and other community services.
The Primary Mental Health Team (PMHT) initiative is a service delivery structure which aims to enhance the capacity of primary care services to assist people experiencing a mental disorder and promote greater collaboration between primary care and specialist mental health services.
The engagement, collaboration and partnerships with key primary care agencies, particularly general practices and community health centres, underpins the delivery of this initiative.
